"How old am I?" — the exact answer
Most people know their age in years, but your exact age includes months and days too — and it matters more than you think. Forms, school admissions, sports categories, insurance and retirement dates all depend on your precise age, sometimes down to the day.
How to work out your age by hand
Subtract your birth year from the current year. Then check: has your birthday already happened this year? If yes, that number is your age in years. If not, subtract one. For months and days, count forward from your last birthday to today.
The easy way
Skip the manual counting — our free Age Calculator gives your exact age in years, months and days instantly, plus your total days lived and a countdown to your next birthday.
What is chronological age?
Chronological age is simply the amount of time that has passed since you were born — the number on your birthday cake. It is different from biological age, which reflects how old your body feels and functions. Your chronological age is fixed by the calendar; this is the age all official documents use.
